Calling all teachers: the Spring 2022 Educator’s Guide is now available for download here! Whether your purview is high school or university students, we invite you to visit the Asymptote for Educators web page to discover new ways to bring translation into your classroom. With writing prompts and reading suggestions galore, this free resource based on articles from the Spring 2022 issue will be sure to spice up any literary discussion. Share the wealth with all your educator friends and be sure to fill out this survey to give us feedback. In this age of division, we can all play a part, however small, to foster empathy across cultures. Grab a copy of the new Educator’s Guide now.

Considering a career in world literature? Then you should know that Asymptote provides the perfect training ground! (Former team members have gone on to take up positions at Penguin BooksDalkey Archive, and Words Without Borders.) And now is the perfect time to apply! We’ve just entered Phase II of our mid-year recruitment drive—concentrating on editorial and marketing roles this time. Among the newly available openings are Visual Editor, Nonfiction Editor, Social Media Manager, and Assistant Director of Outreach. If you’d like to join us behind the scenes, check out the newly available positions and apply today.

Translators working with Armenian and any of the four official Swiss languages, please take note! The deadline to participate in these two paid Special Features has been extended to June 1. We seek the best fiction, nonfiction, and poetry from these two countries. Translators whose work is featured in these lineups will receive an honorarium of USD80. So, polish up your translations and send in your best work today! Are you a translator but working with other languages? If so, you are more than welcome to submit to our regular categories! Find our submission guidelines here.

Finally, a quick update on our pledge—in the current issue’s Editor’s Note—to remove ads on our website if three new masthead members (or their equivalent) sign up by June 2022: with one new patron on board, we’re now one-sixth of the way there! At Asymptote, our mission has always been to unlock the world’s literary treasures. Our international setup is brilliant for that, but not so brilliant when it comes to institutional funding that’s doled out along nationalistic lines. That’s why we very much count on our readers to keep us going through challenging times like these. If you agree with Paul Éluard that “there is another world, but it is in this one” and see literature as a doorway to that hidden world, we hope you’ll take just three minutes to sign up as a patron or a masthead member today.
