Dear readers,
Time’s an arrow turning lived experience into stories. At Asymptote, we have stories and then our own ongoing story, advocating for a more inclusive world literature. Here’s a quick recap of our exciting albeit challenging year, which saw us
- giving away $3,000 in prizes to six best emerging translators, announced in our special 8th anniversary issue;
- spotlighting creative reflections on literary translation (in our Spring 2019 issue), Yiddish Poetry (in our Summer 2019 issue), and international microfiction (in our Fall 2019 issue), as well as Catalan literature (in our first-ever stand-alone Sep 2019 issue) amid never-before-published offerings from 70 countries and 44 languages;
- organizing an essay contest judged by J. M. Coetzee (winners to be unveiled in our forthcoming Winter 2020 issue);
- publishing a three-part forum on reviewing translations (here, here, and here);
- running 50 Weekly Dispatches from the Frontlines of World Literature and
- publishing 12 What’s New In Translation? columns among other compelling blog content;
- putting together 4 educational guides (downloadable here); and last but not least,
- picking out 12 more books for our Book Club (if you’re scrambling for gift ideas, it’s not too late to sign up to give a subscription!)
